INTERVIEW WITH JAIME JO WRIGHT

I’ve enjoyed having you on the blog before, so readers may already be at least acquainted with you. So, can you tell us something about yourself that we may not know?

Something you may NOT know? Hmmm . . . I love frogs. Really. I do. Now that doesn’t mean send me little statues of frogs and such, because I don’t collect them, lol! (thank you in advance for thinking of it though). I mean, that, I love REAL frogs. I have two tree frogs and two leopard frogs both in separate aquariums. We get along quite splendidly.

“The Fisherman’s Nymph” novella is about two characters who fly fish. Do you enjoy fly fishing yourself and how did you research for this story?

I do fly fish! Fly fishing is most definitely a women’s sport too, and it takes much finesse and strategy as well as appreciation of conservation and the environment. I researched for this story simply by drawing on personal experience. The setting takes place about 10 minutes from where I vacation regularly (http://www.hiddencoveresort.com). The Flambeau River is a place I’ve canoed many summers, camped along, and swam (swum?!?) in. So all in all, it really is a story encompassing much of my personal experience.

This is the third novella collection you’ve been published with! What draws you to these types of collections and are there challenges to writing novellas?

I really love writing novellas. They’re challenging because you have to be succinct and believable in a very small amount of words. It’s difficult to make a romance believable, a storyline complete, and an adventure possible when you’re limited to such a small degree. I believe that challenge is what makes me enjoy them.

Your first full-length novel, The House on Foster Hill, releases in December. I cannot wait for this one! Can you tell us a little bit about it?

Oooo, now as much as I love writing novellas, I love writing dual timelines even more. #THOFH is a mystery that spans over a hundred years and centers around an abandoned house. Two heroines are linked by their experiences, and there’s danger, a Jane-Eyre style creep factor, romance, and lots of ancestral mystery surrounding this house. Frankly, i still wonder if the house on Foster Hill isn’t actually alive 😉

Now for some fun, rapid-fire questions to get to know you better…

Favorite indulgent treat? rising crust supreme pizza
Favorite vacation spot? anywhere but my house
Favorite weather? Autumn, 35-55F, cool and crisp
Current book you’re reading? Many Sparrows by Lori Benton
What makes you laugh? my sisters

    1. (Late reply thanks to being on vacation the last 10 days!) My favorite book as a child was Anne of Green Gables … the first book that made me realize the power of books to sweep you away to another place and time.

    1. MMMM, well, I’m a coffee snob. But a NICE snob. 😉 I really enjoy high quality coffees although I have been known to drink Folgers from time to time when necessary. 🙂

    1. Currently 3 novella collections and my first full-length is releasing in December from Bethany House Publishers. I enjoy writing both styles, but full-length is definitely my fave!
